This foundational program equips participants with the core principles, legislative frameworks, and practical skills needed for success in a municipal compliance role. Training emphasizes the application of Alberta’s Municipal Government Act, interpretation of the Land Use Bylaw and understanding the distinction between Designated and Delegated Authority, all within the context of a professional Code of Conduct. Participants also build essential competencies in managing emotions under pressure, maintaining situational awareness, conducting hazard assessments and preparing accurate, defensible reports.
Practical modules provide hands-on experience in conducting site inspections, recording precise field notes, engaging professionally with complainants and subjects of complaints and drafting enforcement documents such as warning letters and Stop Orders. Graduates leave with the confidence and authority to uphold municipal standards and, upon achieving a minimum score of 70% on the 50-question open-book exam, will be eligible to advance to the Level 2 – Intermediate Training Program.
